How to Use the OpenVPN Connect App on Your Android Device to Connect to NordVPN Servers
Android provides APIs to developers that allow them to create virtual private networks (VPNs). These apps can offer VPN protocols that the built-in client can’t support, and can help you connect to a VPN service without the need for complex configuration.
This article explains how to use the OpenVPN app on your Android device to connect to NordVPN servers. It also explains how to manually set up the connection using the NordVPN app and an OpenVPN profile. This is a more complicated method but gives you greater control over the quality of your connection and mobile data.
To get started, download the OpenVPN Connect app from the Google Play Store. After that, you’ll need to obtain the OpenVPN configuration files from your VPN service provider. These configs include a.ovpn extension file and can be downloaded from the VPN provider’s website or their live chat support. After downloading the config files, copy them to your Android device (or PC). You can download directly to your device, or use an app such as ZArchiver.
Once you’ve imported the OpenVPN config files, launch the OpenVPN app and click “+” to add an additional VPN profile. Select a server, and then tap “Connect”. Once connected the entire Internet traffic is routed through the secure tunnel to the selected server. The app also displays the connection’s status and details in the Status tab. The app also comes with an always-on VPN option that ensures that the connection remains active even when the app’s not active.
